The Bible in Limerick Verse - Christopher Goodwins

An Isleham Vicar called Chris
Wrote Scripture in limericks. "This
Should help people read,
About Jesus, indeed,
And enjoy it, - not give Him a miss!"

So he put pen to paper in Lent,
And through the New Testament went.
It seemed rather fun
When he realised he'd done
Something no one had thought to invent!

In three weeks, his verse went world-wide,
On radio, TV, - inside
Every paper on sale!
"It's for female and male -
Just read about Jesus!" - he cried.

I hope you will read the real thing -
Inspired by these verses, and sing
God's praises each day
As you go on your way!
One day, I'll record them! - like Bing!

This is the 8 May 2001 "The Big Breakfast" limerick - which I had to knock up in 20 seconds before the commercial break - with no warning beforehand - ever so slightly amended

There was an old Vicar called Chris,
Who was brought up at Roydon, near Diss.
But folk aren't so clever,
If bibles read never -
And that's why they ought to read this!
